Mr. James Allen McKnight Sr.

It is with deep sorrow that the McKnight family announces the death of Mr. James Allen McKnight, Sr., 77. Mr. McKnight entered into rest on Saturday, July 29, 2023. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, in The Chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Lee and The Rev. Jeff Steen will officiate with burial to follow in Piedmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the funeral home. Mr. McKnight was born in Sumter, SC, on June 20, 1946. He was the son of the late James Wilson McKnight and the late Mary Ann Branham McKnight Yarborough. Allen attended Ashwood High School in Ashwood, SC. He is the oldest of five siblings, and upon the death of his father, Allen put school aside to work and support his younger siblings and his mother. Allen was an avid Bowler, being a member of the No Handicap League in Camden, SC, for many years. He loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles and owned many over the years. He loved to ride with his friends and also loved to attend bike weeks in Dayton and Myrtle Beach. He was married to his first wife, Sandra, for over 35 years until her passing in October 2001. He owned Allen's Heating and A/C and Ashwood Bar & Grill and was a very well-known, loved, supported, and respected businessman as well as a constant and loved pillar of this community. He hosted countless Benefits for people in need, and he never met a stranger. He loved being around people and helping and giving to others in their time of need. He always made time to help others and was a very loving, kind, and giving father, grandfather, husband, brother, & friend to everyone he met. He had two beloved pets, Gracie and Maggie. He was a one-of-a-kind, generous, caring, and loving person to everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son, James Allen McKnight Jr. (Rhonda) of Bishopville, SC; daughters, Sherri Westfall (Scott) of Camden, SC, Trish McKnight Bick (John) of Bishopville, SC; brothers, Larry McKnight (Debbie), Cary McKnight (Jane); and his girlfriend, Catherine Brown. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lee Spriggs McKnight; brother, Donald McKnight; sisters, Janet Kay McKnight Nichols; stepfather, James C. Yarborough. Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Westfall, Eric McKnight, Justin Williamson, Donnie Branham, Brian Pack, and Dallas McDougald.
