Mr. Pelzer Walter Beasley Jr.

Pelzer Walter Beasley Jr. (Pete),79, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Born on June 15, 1945, in Darlington County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Pelzer Walter "P. W." Beasley Sr. and the late Mary Etta Griggs Beasley. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Hebron United Methodist Church, 3741 Una Road, Bishopville, SC, where Pete was a devoted member. The Rev. Jerry McManus and The Rev. Jimmy Beck will officiate, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church, c/o Treasurer Chip Clanton, 197 Woodham Road Bishopville, SC 29010, or to Lee County Farm Bureau, c/o Young Farmers and Ranchers, P.O. BOX 321 Bishopville, SC 29010. Pete was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Affectionately called “Poppy,” Pete was recognized for perfect attendance for all twelve years of school. This started a lifelong dedication to whatever he was involved in at the time. He was on the Farm Bureau, FSA, and REL Academy boards for many years. He served in the National Guard for six years, as well as a lifetime Mason and charter member of the Outdoor Club where Pete was an avid duck and dove hunter. His love of farming began at an early age and continued until his death. He began as a young boy with his father, where later he met Virginia on a sunny afternoon while driving a tractor in his field. After their marriage, he then joined Virginia’s family farm, Tococobe Farms. In 1987, Pete established Quail Crossing Farms, which continues to be family-operated to this day. In addition to farming, Pete worked at and retired from SONOCO after 28 years. He was also employed at Southern States and worked in the Boll Weevil Eradication program. Pete is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Woodham Beasley of Bishopville, SC. They were known as Gin and Pop to most. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzette and Brian New of Florence, SC; son, Woody Beasley of Bishopville, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Jimmy Beck of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Lindsey (Cole) Hendrigsman, Kyle (Hailey) New, Bailee (Holdyn) Jones, Parker Beasley, Mackenzie Beck, and Jeb Beck; great-grandchildren, Hadlee and Hatchel Jones, and Poppy Mae Hendrigsman. In addition to his parents, Pete is preceded by his sister, Bobba LuAnn Beasley Amerson, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Ruth H. Woodham. Serving as pallbearers will be Chip Clanton, Walby Craven, Justin Boyce, Marshall Boyce, Al Bramlett, Bert Beasley, Lewis Watkins, and Danny Rae Griggs.
