Mrs. Ruth Smith Pearson

It is with deep sorrow that the Prescott family announces the death of their beloved mother, Mrs. Ruth Smith Prescott Pearson, 91. Mrs. Pearson, the widow of Robert Allen Prescott and Newton Pearson, entered into rest on Sunday, October 15, 2023. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 3 o'clock on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Lewis Chapel Church. The Rev. Jerry Watson and The Rev. W. Bryan Bellotte will officiate, with burial to follow in Brunson Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to Lewis Chapel Church, 1510 Plowden Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29153, or to the Brunson Cemetery Care Fund, c/o Mrs. Patsy Watts, 200 McInnis Store Road, Sumter, SC 29153. Mrs. Pearson was born in Clarendon County, SC, on October 22, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Robert Smith and the late Laura Cornelia Cutter. She was a Past Matron and a lifetime member of the Bishopville Order of the Eastern Star - Chapter #74. She worked as a shipping clerk for Pioneer Ltd. for over 32 years. She was a faithful member of Lewis Chapel Church for 76 years. She was a former Sunday School teacher, the President of the Women’s group, and sang in the choir. She loved to read, sew, and crochet. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Bobby Allen Prescott (Donna) of Newport, NC, Charles Edward Prescott (Julia) of La Grange, NC, William Douglas Prescott (Georgia) of Greenville, SC; daughters, Cindy Ferguson (Steve Stewart) of Sumter, SC, Nancy Boykin (Johnny) of Gable, SC; brother, Ronnie Smith (Diane) of Gable, SC; sister, Roberta Hulme (Michael) of Newbern, TN; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Prochak, William Douglas Prescott II, Ashley Parrish, and Charlie Prescott; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cornelia Cutter Smith; her first husband, Robert Allen Prescott; second husband, Newton Pearson; sister, Jessie Cannon; brothers, George Smith and Robert Smith. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews. Further announcements will be made in due course.
