It is with deep sorrow that the Segars family announces the death of their beloved mother, Betty Jean Farmer Segars, 80. Mrs. Segars, the widow of Glenn D. Segars Jr., entered into rest on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. A funeral service to honor her life will be held at 3 o'clock on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Paul Atkinson will officiate with burial to follow in Piedmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Mrs. Segars, the widow of Glenn D. Segars Jr., was born in Bishopville, SC. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Ellie Farmer and Madeline Brown Farmer. She was a member of Memorial Chapel in Bishopville, SC. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and being with her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in her yard and loved taking trips with her special friends and church group. She is survived by her son, Ronald (Tammy) Segars of Sumter, SC; daughter, Jeanna (Wally) Melton of Bishopville, SC; brother, Frank (Pat) Farmer of Camden, SC; sister, Melba Tallon of Bishopville, SC; grandchildren, Jenna Melton of Bishopville, SC, and Lilly Carpenter of Sumter, SC; brother-in-law, Edward Newman Segars; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Lareda Farmer of Bishopville, SC. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Farmer; sister, Mary Ann Farmer; sister-in-law, Deborah Segars; brother-in-law, Jack (Melba) Segars. Serving as pallbearers will be Luke Giddings, Jimmy Cole, Alva Ridgeway, Eric Ahtonen, Larry Huggins, Fletcher Smith, and Tommy McCutchen. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Steve Watts and Bryan Smith.
