Mr. Ernest "Von" Lavon Capell

Funeral services for Ernest Lavon "Von" Capell, 72, will be held at 3 o’clock on Thursday, August 03, 2017, at Red Hill Baptist Church located at 4695 Red Hill Road, Camden, SC. The Rev. Jerry Peacock will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Hancock-Elmore-Hill funeral home is serving the family. In lieu of flowers and food, memorials may be made to Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4485 Red Hill Rd, Camden, SC. Mr. Capell died peacefully at the hospice wing of the VA Hospital "Warrior's Walk" on Monday, July 31, 2017. Born in Lee County, he was the son of Harry Clyburn Capell and Sara Brown Capell Brandt. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah "Shine" Chapple Capell, his mother and father, stepfather Charles Myrlin Brandt, brother, Charles Capell, and sister, Donna Jean Grantham. Von was a US Army veteran from the Vietnam era, 1968-1971. He worked at DuPont, Bo Smith Furniture and he retired from work as an electrician working nuclear shutdowns. He loved music, bowling, fishing and traveling until his health deteriorated. Von had a heart of gold and was deeply loved by his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his son, Ernest Capell Gladwell of Trenton, MI; grandchildren, Dustin Gladwell (Sara) from Livonia, MI, and Chelsea Gladwell (Jennifer) from Brownstown, MI; three great-grandchildren, Lyric, Clarity, and Lofton Gladwell; brother, H. Wayne Capell (Betty) of Camden, and Ethel Pfeiffer (mother of his son Ernie) from Livonia, MI; Aunt, Ethel Watson; several nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins.
