Mary Jewell Skinner Tindall, 93, a lifetime resident of Lee County passed away on August 16, 2021, at Morrell Nursing Center. Jewell was the daughter of the late Henry Lee “Jack” Skinner and Lila Matuse Skinner. She was a member of the Bishopville First Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Forrest Garner Tindall, Jr. of Monks Corner, grandsons: Brady, Colby, and Dylan Tindall, and her sister Lila Betty Skinner of Bishopville, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garner Tindall, sisters: Adeline Brown and Vera Gandy, and brothers: Howard, John, Bill, Jack, and Bart Skinner. Jewell was a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Arts Council, Pilot Club, Iris Garden Club, Colonial Dames 17th Century, Daughters of the American Revolution, Huguenot Society of SC, Lee County Historical Society, V.F.W Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and many other clubs and organizations. Jewell devoted over 60 years teaching, counseling, and mentoring the residents of Lee County in the public school system. She also served on the Lee County School Board for three terms. Because of her love for seeing her students succeed, she was honored with many awards and recognitions throughout her teaching career. She was presented the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award from her alma mater, Winthrop University. This award recognizes a Winthrop alumna for the selfless dedication of time, energy, and talent in service to others. Jewell exemplified these characteristics throughout her life. She touched many lives, not only in her teaching but her many acts of kindness. A funeral service will be held at 11 o’clock on Friday, August 20, 2021, in the First Baptist Church, Bishopville, SC. The Rev. Lin Kirkman will officiate with burial to follow in Piedmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship hall one hour prior to the service. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Directors are caring for the family. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bishopville, 229 W. Church St., Bishopville, SC 29010. Serving as pallbearers will be David Jeffords, Dondi Best, Spann Reams, Robin Skinner, Freddie DuBose, and Tommy Woodham.
