Maryanne Baskin Towers, 79, passed Saturday, August 28, 2021. Born August 6, 1942, at Fort Benning, GA, she was the daughter of the late Edward Briggs Baskin, Sr., and the late Claribel Nance Gee Baskin Prince. Maryanne was a graduate of Bishopville High School in Bishopville, South Carolina, and Duke University, School of Nursing, Class of 1963. After graduation from Duke, she held various nursing positions in Virginia, South Carolina, and Massachusetts including working on a kidney transplant unit and teaching nursing, in addition to more typical hospital nursing positions. In April of 1967, she met David Towers at John Wesley UMC in Charleston, SC and they were married later that same year. Their girls were also baptized at the same church where the couple met. Maryanne left nursing to be at home with their girls and served at her church and as a volunteer at the girls’ various schools throughout their growing up. Maryanne opened her home in a way that made everyone feel like family and she leaves behind wonderful memories with many friends and family members of her love and hospitality granted each of them. She loved God and prayed for her loved ones continuously. She will be missed. Maryanne is predeceased by her parents; her brother, Gist Gee Baskin; and her husband of 45 years, David George Towers, who passed in 2012. Surviving are her stepmother Kathleen D. Baskin of Florence, SC; brother, Edward B. "Nick" Baskin Jr. (Susan) of Lugoff, SC; three sisters Kathleen B. Brungard (Don) of Charlotte, NC, Jacquelyn D. Odell (John) of Chapin, SC, and Maria B. Clayton (Warren) of Springfield, VA; two daughters, Rebecca T. Hobbs (Stephen) of Tallahassee, FL, and Linda W. Towers of Longwood, FL; two grandsons, Frank and David Hobbs of Tallahassee, FL; and numerous cousins and friends whom she called family. A memorial service was held at Tomoka United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 11 o'clock. A graveside funeral service will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bishopville, SC, at 2 o'clock on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
