A funeral service for Mrs. Myra Burgin Epps, 74, who entered into rest on Saturday, April 3, 2021, will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Flint Hill Baptist Church, Ft. Mill, SC. The Rev. Jimmy Holley and Col. Max Burgin, Ph.D. Retired Chaplin, US Army will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM on Friday, April 9, 2021, at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in her honor to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201-0001, or Flint Hill Baptist Church, PO Box 518, Pineville, NC 28134. Mrs. Epps was born on November 15, 1946, in Forest City in Rutherford County, NC, where she was raised. She was the daughter of the late Fred Burgin and Frances Hudson Burgin. She attended Mars Hill College, where she met Jimmy. She continued her education, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from Winthrop University and continued her graduate study at the University of Virginia, and Frances Marion University. She earned her Master's Degree and Specialist Degree in Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. She began her teaching career in Franklin County, VA, then Florence School District, and Lexington School Districts One and Two for over 30 years. She was a recipient of the Teacher of the Year award from each school system. She was also honored as a Superior Teacher. After her retirement, she settled in and devoted the rest of her life to her family. Each child and grandchild held a special place in her heart. Cooking for her family was her greatest joy. She was so very proud of her two sons and the Godly fathers they have become. She was blessed with two daughters-in-law that loved her and cared for her beyond measure. The biggest task in her life was taking care of Jimmy. She did it well. Myra was ready for Jesus to take her by the hand for eternity. "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." - Philippians 1:21 She is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy L. Epps of Bishopville, SC; sons, Bryan (Britton) Epps of Florence, SC, Tyler (Keisha) Epps of Bishopville, SC; brothers, Fred (Mary Ellen) Burgin Jr. of Rutherfordton, NC, Dr. James Kelly Burgin Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Tanner Epps, Hampton Epps, John Hudson Epps, Ansleigh Sutton Epps, Jase Epps, Sullivan Epps, Anna Clair Epps, and Whitman Epps.
