Mr. Reese Lamar "Marty" Horton

It is with deep sorrow that the Horton family announces the death of their beloved father, Reese Lamar "Marty" Horton, 57. Mr. Horton entered into rest on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A graveside funeral service to honor his life will be held at 4 o'clock on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Piedmont Cemetery, with The Rev. Keith Allison and The Rev. Dr. James Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 pm, on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home, concluding with a funeral procession to the cemetery. Mr. Horton was born in Sumter, SC, the son of Sandra "Diane" Montgomery Horton and the late George Horton. Marty graduated from Lee Academy, served in the United States Navy, and retired as a truck driver. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bishopville, SC. Marty was a die-hard Gamecock fan and enjoyed raising Game Chickens. He will be remembered for his kindness to others, and for being one who would always help those in need. Marty never met a stranger, making everyone feel as if they were his friend. He is survived by his loving mother, Diane Montgomery Horton; son, Brandon (Brooke) Horton; daughter, Maegan (Austin) Porter; sister, Lori (Pete) Smith; brother, Norman Horton; granddaughter, Kyleigh Horton; Grandson, Braxton Porter, both of whom he loved dearly; nephews, Mark (Ashley) Arrants, Matt Arrants; great-niece and great-nephew, Collin Arrants, Bailey Neilsen; special friend, June Beasley. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Reece and Eula Mae Montgomery. He will be missed deeply by his friends and family.
