Mr. Archie O'Dell Corbett Jr.

It is with deep sorrow that the Corbett family announces the death of their beloved father, Archie O'Dell Corbett, Jr., 83, of Bishopville, SC. Mr. Corbett, the widower of Mary Jane Jordan Corbett, entered into rest on Thursday, September 15, 2022, surrounded by his family. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3 o'clock on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Red Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Jeff Steen will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Red Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 4695 Red Hill Road, Camden, SC 29020 Mr. Corbett was a citizen of Lee County and the town of Bishopville, SC. He began working as a law enforcement officer in 1962 and went on to hold the offices of Chief of Police, as well as serving eight years as Sheriff. He leaves behind a son, George Nelson (Iris) of Edenton, NC; daughter, Laura Corbett-Logan (Johnnie) of Bishopville, SC; brother, James W. (Nancy) Corbett of Hudson, NC; grandchildren, LTC Scott Nelson (Kristin), currently stationed in Seoul, Korea, Major Adrian Nelson (currently stationed in Istanbul, Turkey), Laine Logan-Hardee (Trey) of Camden, SC, and Jae Logan (Tyner) of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren, Isabella Hardee (9), Eleanor Hardee (6), Harper Nelson (2) and "Baby Girl" Logan (Due in October). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Jordan Corbett; sisters, Patsy Corbett-Cooney (Dan) of Cary, NC, and Bessie Corbett-Case (Dick) of Cincinnati, OH. Serving as pallbearers will be Marion Scott, Jay Gardener, Lenn Gardener, Jimmy Corbett, Jae Logan, Jamie Jordan, Stephen Corbett, Scott Nelson, and Heyward Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Sheriff Daniel Simon and Lee County Sheriff's Department Staff and Chief James Dillinger, and the Bishopville Police Department Staff. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the kindness that everyone has shown. Those who have called the family, prayed, sent messages, brought food, sent flowers, and visited. That gift of kindness has brought them comfort and peace during this time of mourning.
