Mr. John "JW" Woodham Barrett

It is with deep sorrow that the Barrett family announces the death of Mr. John "JW" Woodham Barrett, 87. Mr. Barrett entered into rest on Sunday, May 25, 2025. The Directors of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home are caring for the family. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Community Bible Church. The Reverend Jerry Peacock and Pastor Scott Hodge will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the Chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill funeral home. JW Barrett, beloved husband of Elizabeth Davis Barrett, was born June 29, 1937, at his home in Lee County. He wished to be at the home where he was born, raised, and raised his family at his passing, and the Lord honored his wishes on Sunday morning, May 25, 2025. Mr.Barrett was quiet, humble, kind, and gentle. He did not seek attention but was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a Christian man, who lived a simple life and set a good example for his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Community Bible Church, where he served as a Deacon. He was faithful to his wife and the Lord. The well-being of his family was very important to him. He always made sure his family was taken care of. In his early life, he was a cabinetmaker and a farmer, growing row crops. He also raised turkeys and hogs. He then went on to work as a Maintenance Supervisor at Wateree Correctional Institute in Rembert, SC, in which he retired from in June, 1999. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with is wife and his grandchildren. He continued to enjoy woodworking and gardening in his later years. He would often share the bounty of his garden with neighbors, family, and friends. JW is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Davis Barrett; sons, Johnny Barrett and Paul (Hope) Barrett; grandchildren, Dex (Katenell) Barrett, Britt (Brock) Barrett, Bryce Barrett, and Caleigh Barrett. JW was predeceased by his father, Woodham Wayland Barrett; mother, Naomi Troublefield Barrett; sisters, Evelyn Folsom, Sarah Paranto, Louise Johnson, Virginia McLeod, Ruth Ann Floyd, andMary Poole. The family would like to give a special thank you to McCoy Nursing Home and Jim and Elaine Jeko and the staff at the Terrace, and Amedisys Hospice Care for the love and care they provided over the last year.
